Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about what InnoShot does, what it cannot do, and what happens to your screenshots.

About InnoShot

Is InnoShot free?

Yes. InnoShot is free to install and use, with no account and no watermark on your exports.

Who makes InnoShot?

InnoShot is made by Innobrains Technologies, a software company in Jhang, Pakistan, that also builds point-of-sale software such as MartPOS.

What can InnoShot do that a normal screenshot cannot?

It captures more than the screen (whole pages, tall elements and panels with their own scrollbar), and it opens every capture in an editor with annotations, spotlight, glass panels, backgrounds, frames and permanent redaction, then exports PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG or a paginated PDF.

Capturing

Can InnoShot capture a whole web page?

Yes. Full-page capture scrolls the page and stitches the screenshots into one image, showing sticky headers once and loading lazy images first. Chrome allows two captures per second, so long pages take a few seconds; you can watch the progress and press Esc to cancel.

Which pages can InnoShot not capture?

Chrome does not let extensions capture chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, other extensions' pages, view-source: pages or the New Tab page. Local files need "Allow access to file URLs" switched on for InnoShot. InnoShot tells you when a page is off limits.

Can I capture a panel that scrolls on its own, such as a chat or a table?

Yes. Use the scrollable container capture: InnoShot finds the elements on the page that scroll, you pick one, and it scrolls that element and stitches its whole content. Lists that unload rows you have scrolled past may not capture completely.

How do I capture a menu or tooltip that disappears when I click?

Use a delayed capture: choose 3, 5 or 10 seconds, or any time from 1 to 60, open the menu while the countdown runs on the toolbar icon, and InnoShot captures when it reaches zero.

Can I change the keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. InnoShot suggests Alt+Shift+V, F, S and E for visible area, full page, selected area and element (on ChromeOS the area shortcut is Alt+Shift+Q). Change them, or assign shortcuts to the other commands, at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. Chrome can leave a suggested shortcut unassigned if it clashes with a Chrome or system shortcut or with another extension.

Editing and effects

Can I undo changes after closing the editor?

Edits are layers over the original capture and are saved automatically. Reopen the project from the InnoShot library and you can still move, change or remove any layer, or widen a crop again.

Do glass panels just put a transparent box on top?

No. A glass panel blurs, frosts and tints the actual pixels underneath it, so the content behind stays recognizable while your label on top stays readable.

Privacy and security

Does InnoShot upload my screenshots?

No. Captures are made, edited, stored and exported inside your browser. The extension has no server and makes no network requests, so there is nowhere for your images to go unless you send them yourself.

Why does InnoShot need permissions at all?

To capture a tab it needs activeTab (granted only when you click its icon, press its shortcut or use its menu on that tab) and scripting (to measure and scroll the page during a capture). storage and unlimitedStorage keep your settings and captures in your browser, and contextMenus adds the right-click menu. It asks for no host permissions, so it cannot read the sites you visit on its own.

Is blur safe for hiding passwords or account numbers?

No. Blur and pixelate are cosmetic: researchers have recovered text from blurred and pixelated images. For anything that must not be readable, use Redact, which draws an opaque box that is flattened into every exported image and PDF.

Are redactions removed from the original too?

In exported files, yes: they are flattened in. Editable project files (.innoshot) keep the original pixels so you can keep editing, and InnoShot warns you when you save one that contains redactions. "Apply redactions to source" burns them into the stored image permanently.

Export and files

What formats can I export?

PNG, JPEG and WebP with quality and scale controls, SVG with vector annotations, and PDF. You can also copy the finished image to the clipboard.

What happens with a screenshot that is too big for one image?

Browsers limit how large one image can be. InnoShot never crops silently: it offers to split the export into numbered files, scale it down, or save it as a multi-page PDF.

Will a long screenshot fit on one PDF page?

With A4 or Letter pages, a tall capture is split across as many readable pages as it needs, with optional margins and header or footer text, instead of being shrunk until it is unreadable.

Installing and browsers

Which browsers does InnoShot work in?

InnoShot is built for desktop Google Chrome 116 or newer on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. It is tested on Windows 11; the other systems are expected to work but are not yet manually verified. Microsoft Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers can install Chrome Web Store extensions and may work, but they are not tested or supported in InnoShot 1.0.0. It does not run in Firefox, Safari or on phones.

Where do I get InnoShot?

From the Chrome Web Store. InnoShot is not distributed anywhere else. The download page on this site links to the official listing once it is live.

Do I need an account or a license key?

No. There is nothing to sign up for. Install the extension and use it.
