Troubleshooting

Something not working? Start here

Each entry names the symptom, the usual cause and the fix. Longer explanations are linked in the documentation.

Installing and shortcuts

A keyboard shortcut does nothing

Usual cause
Chrome did not assign the suggested shortcut because it clashes with a Chrome or system shortcut or with another extension.
Fix

Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts, find InnoShot and set a shortcut that includes Ctrl or Alt (Ctrl+Alt together is not allowed). Then try it on an ordinary web page.

The InnoShot icon is not in the toolbar

Usual cause
Chrome hides new extensions in the extensions menu until you pin them.
Fix

Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin InnoShot.

Capturing

Nothing happens when I try to capture

Usual cause
The page is one Chrome does not let extensions capture: a chrome:// page, the Chrome Web Store, another extension's page, view-source: or the New Tab page.
Fix

Open the page you want as a normal web page and try again. InnoShot shows a message on pages that are off limits.

A local file (file://) cannot be captured

Usual cause
Chrome blocks extensions from local files unless you allow it.
Fix

Open chrome://extensions, click Details under InnoShot and switch on "Allow access to file URLs".

The element picker cannot select something inside an embedded frame

Usual cause
The content comes from another site in a cross-origin iframe. Its pixels are captured, but extensions cannot inspect inside it.
Fix

Use a selected area capture around the frame instead, or open the frame's own page in a tab.

A menu or tooltip disappears before the capture

Usual cause
Clicking the toolbar icon or pressing a key closes most menus and tooltips.
Fix

Use a delayed capture (3, 5, 10 seconds or a custom time), then open the menu while the countdown runs.

Full-page capture

The header appears again and again down the page

Usual cause
The page has a sticky or fixed header and changed it while being scrolled in an unusual way.
Fix

InnoShot shows top-anchored fixed elements once, in the first slice. If a page still repeats one, capture again with "pause animations" on, or crop the duplicates in the editor.

Images are missing or blank in a full-page capture

Usual cause
The page loads images only when they scroll into view.
Fix

Turn on the pre-scroll pass so InnoShot steps through the page and waits for images before capturing, or scroll through the page yourself first.

The capture stopped before the end of the page

Usual cause
The page keeps adding content as you scroll (infinite scroll), and InnoShot stopped at the maximum capture height.
Fix

This is deliberate and the editor says when it happens. Capture the part you need with a selected area, or crop the full capture.

A full-page capture is slow

Usual cause
Chrome allows an extension two screen captures per second, so a long page needs a few seconds.
Fix

Let it finish, or press Esc to cancel.

Editing and export

The export is too large

Usual cause
The capture is bigger than the browser can hold in a single image.
Fix

Choose one of the options InnoShot offers: split into numbered files, scale down, or export a multi-page PDF.

Transparent areas are filled in my JPEG

Usual cause
JPEG has no transparency.
Fix

Export PNG or WebP to keep a transparent background, or set a background color first.

Copy to clipboard did not work

Usual cause
Copying needs the editor tab to be focused, and some sites block pasting images.
Fix

Click inside the editor, copy again, and paste into an app that accepts images. Export a PNG file as an alternative.
