Capturing
Delayed capture
Set a 3, 5 or 10 second timer, or a custom delay of 1 to 60 seconds, to capture hover menus, tooltips and other states that vanish when you click.
Updated
Some things on a page only exist while you interact with them: a dropdown that opens on hover, a tooltip, a field showing its suggestions, or a menu that closes as soon as you click elsewhere. Moving to the toolbar to start a capture would make them disappear. Delayed capture starts a timer first, so you have time to set up the page before InnoShot takes the capture.
Start a delayed capture
- Open the page and get it ready, apart from the state you want to show.
- Click the InnoShot icon and choose delayed capture in the popup.
- Choose a delay of 3, 5 or 10 seconds, or set a custom delay from 1 to 60 seconds.
- Start the countdown and go back to the page.
- Open the menu, hover over the element that shows the tooltip, or set up whatever else you want to capture. Then keep the pointer still.
- When the countdown ends, InnoShot takes the capture and the editor opens in a new tab.
The time remaining is shown on the badge of the InnoShot icon in the toolbar. If a countdown is shown on the page, it is removed before the frame is taken, so it never appears in your screenshot.
Delayed capture ships without a keyboard shortcut. You can assign one at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
What it is useful for
| Situation | What to do during the countdown |
|---|---|
| Hover menus and dropdowns | Hover over the menu so it opens, then hold the pointer still |
| Tooltips | Rest the pointer on the element until the tooltip appears |
| Search suggestions and autocomplete | Click into the field and type until the suggestions show |
| Focus and hover styles | Tab to the control or hover over it so the style is visible |
| Short notifications | Trigger the action that shows the message, then wait |
| Animations | Let the page finish animating into its final state |
Choosing a delay
A short delay is usually enough for a hover menu or a tooltip. Use a longer delay when you need to type, open several levels of a menu, or wait for something to load. The custom delay goes up to 60 seconds.
Good to know
- Stay on the same tab and site. The access you give InnoShot when you start the capture lasts while you stay on that site. If you navigate to another site or close the tab before the countdown ends, the capture cannot be taken.
- Keep the pointer where it is. Moving it towards the toolbar is exactly what closes hover menus; leave it in place until the editor opens.
- Nothing is added to the image. The countdown lives on the toolbar badge, and any on-page countdown is removed before the frame is taken.
- Pages Chrome reserves for itself, such as
chrome://pages and the Chrome Web Store, cannot be captured, or only partly, with a delay or without one.
