Capturing

Visible area capture

Capture exactly what is on screen in the current tab with one click, a keyboard shortcut or the right-click menu, at your display's native resolution.

Updated

A visible area capture takes exactly what you can see in the current tab: the part of the page inside the browser window, without the address bar, tabs or toolbar. It is the quickest capture mode and a good default for bug reports, chat messages and anything that fits on one screen.

Capture the visible area

Use whichever starting point is handiest:

  • Click the InnoShot icon in the toolbar and choose the visible area action in the popup.
  • Press Alt+Shift+V (Option+Shift+V on macOS), if that shortcut is assigned in your browser.
  • Right-click the page and choose InnoShot's visible area option from the menu.

The capture is taken immediately and the editor opens in a new tab, ready for you to annotate, save, copy or export.

Step by step

  1. Scroll the page so that the part you want is in view.
  2. Close anything you do not want in the image, such as a cookie banner or a chat widget.
  3. Start the capture with the popup, the shortcut or the right-click menu.
  4. Edit the result in the editor, then save, copy or export it.

Resolution and zoom

InnoShot captures at your display's native resolution. On a high-density display, such as many laptop screens, the image has more pixels than the page's CSS size, so text and icons stay sharp. If you need a smaller file, use the scale option when you export.

If you have zoomed the page in or out in Chrome, the capture shows it as you see it.

When another mode fits better

You need Use
Content below the fold, or the whole page Full page capture
Only part of the screen Selected area capture, or crop in the editor
One component, such as a card or table Element capture
A hover menu or tooltip that closes when you click Delayed capture

Good to know

  • The InnoShot popup is not part of the page, so it does not appear in the capture.
  • Moving the pointer to the toolbar can close hover menus and tooltips. A keyboard shortcut or delayed capture avoids that.
  • Content embedded from other sites, such as maps, usually appears in the capture like everything else, because capture works on the pixels you see. Copy-protected video can be an exception and may come out black.
  • Some pages cannot be captured, or only partly, because Chrome restricts extensions there, such as chrome:// pages and the Chrome Web Store. See Pages InnoShot cannot capture.
