Export

Copy to clipboard

Copy an edited screenshot as a PNG from InnoShot's editor or history page, then paste it straight into a chat, an email or a document.

Updated

Copying is the quickest way to get a screenshot into a chat message, an email, a ticket or a document. InnoShot copies the image to your clipboard as a PNG, so you can paste it wherever images are accepted without saving a file first.

Copy from the editor

  1. Finish your edits.
  2. Use the copy control in the editor's top bar.
  3. Switch to the app where you want the image.
  4. Paste with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on macOS).

Copy from the history page

The history page offers copy as well, so you can grab an earlier capture without having to export a file.

Why copying happens in the editor

InnoShot's capture work runs in a background service worker, the process Chrome uses for an extension's behind-the-scenes tasks. That process has no access to the clipboard. Only a visible, focused page can write to it, so InnoShot offers copy from the editor and the history page, which are ordinary pages in your browser. A keyboard shortcut or the right-click menu starts a capture, and the copy happens afterwards, in the editor.

Pasting into other apps

  • Most chat, email and document apps accept a pasted image directly in a message or page.
  • Some fields only accept text. If nothing appears, paste into the main message area, or save the image and attach the file.
  • PNG keeps transparent areas, but some apps show them against white or black. If that looks wrong, add a solid background before copying.
  • Some apps shrink or compress large pasted images. For long full-page captures, export a file or a PDF instead.

If copying does not work

  1. Click anywhere in the editor so its tab has focus, then copy again. Chrome only lets the focused page write to the clipboard.
  2. Make sure you are copying from the editor or the history page.
  3. Try pasting into a different app to tell whether the problem is with the copy or with the app receiving it.
  4. If the image is very large, export it as a file instead.

Good to know

  • Like other image exports, the copy is a flattened PNG, so redactions are burned into it.
  • The clipboard is local to your computer. InnoShot does not upload anything when you copy.
  • To control the format, quality or scale, export a file rather than copying.
