Troubleshooting
Export problems
Solve InnoShot export problems such as oversized files, canvas limits, missing transparency in JPEG, clipboard copy failures and small-looking PDFs.
Updated
Export problems usually come down to the format you chose or to the size of the image. Find your symptom below.
The file is too large
Check the size estimate in the export options, then try these in order:
- Change the format. For photo-heavy captures, JPEG or WebP is usually much smaller than PNG. Keep PNG for screenshots that are mostly text and interface.
- Lower the quality for JPEG or WebP. Look closely at text after each change.
- Lower the scale. Halving the scale roughly quarters the number of pixels.
- Export less. Crop in the editor, or export only a selected region.
- For PDFs, choose JPEG image compression instead of lossless.
InnoShot says the image is too big to export
Chrome can only draw images up to a certain size on a canvas. InnoShot measures that limit in your browser, and when an export would go past it, InnoShot offers three choices:
- split the image into numbered files
- scale it down to fit
- export it as a PDF
Nothing is cropped silently. Lowering the export scale often brings an image back under the limit.
The background is not transparent
JPEG cannot store transparency. To keep a transparent background:
- Set the background to transparent in the editor.
- Export as PNG or WebP.
Some apps preview transparent areas as white or black. Open the file in another app to check whether the transparency is really there.
Copy to clipboard does not work
- Click anywhere in the editor so its tab has focus, then copy again. Chrome only lets the focused page write to the clipboard.
- Copy from the editor or the history page. Those are the places InnoShot can reach the clipboard.
- If the paste fails, try a different app or a different field. Some fields accept text only.
- For very large images, export a file instead.
The PDF looks small
- Wide image on a portrait page. The image is scaled down to fit the page width. Switch to landscape, or choose Fit so the page takes the shape of the image.
- Large margins. Reduce them to give the image more room.
- Viewer zoom. Many PDF readers open documents zoomed out to show a whole page. Zoom in to check the detail before changing anything.
- Tall images are split across several pages at a readable size, so you do not need to shrink them yourself.
I cannot find the exported file
Exports are saved through Chrome's normal download handling. Open chrome://downloads to see recent files and where they were saved. If Chrome is set to ask where to save each file, a save dialog may be waiting behind another window.
