Getting started

Keyboard shortcuts

InnoShot's suggested capture shortcuts, the commands you can bind yourself, how to change keys in Chrome, and the keys that work inside the pickers.

Updated

Keyboard shortcuts let you capture without opening the popup, which also helps when the thing you want to capture closes as soon as you move the pointer to the toolbar. Chrome manages extension shortcuts, so you can see and change all of them in one place.

Suggested capture shortcuts

Shortcut Action
Alt+Shift+V Capture the visible area
Alt+Shift+F Capture the full page
Alt+Shift+S (Alt+Shift+Q on ChromeOS) Capture a selected area
Alt+Shift+E Capture an element

On macOS, Chrome shows Alt as Option, so the first shortcut appears as Option+Shift+V.

These are suggestions, not guarantees. Chrome does not assign a suggested shortcut if another extension already uses it, and shortcuts that belong to your operating system or to Chrome itself take priority. The InnoShot popup and the shortcut guide in Settings show the shortcuts that are actually assigned, so check there if one does not respond.

Commands without a shortcut

Three commands ship without a shortcut, so they cannot clash with anything you already use:

  • Open editor
  • Capture scrollable region
  • Delayed capture

You can assign keys to any of them yourself.

Change or assign a shortcut

  1. Type chrome://extensions/shortcuts in the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Find InnoShot in the list.
  3. Click the edit (pencil) icon next to the command you want to change.
  4. Press the new key combination. Chrome saves it straight away.

Chrome only accepts combinations that include Ctrl or Alt, and it does not accept Ctrl+Alt combinations.

Keys inside the pickers

Selected area and element capture show a picker on the page. These keys work there.

Area picker

Key What it does
Arrow keys Nudge the selection by 1 pixel
Shift + arrow keys Nudge the selection by 10 pixels
Enter Capture the selection
Esc Cancel

Element picker

Key What it does
Up arrow Move out to the parent element
Down arrow Move in to a child element
Enter Capture the outlined element (clicking works too)
Esc Cancel

Full page capture

Press Esc to cancel a full page capture while it runs. InnoShot restores the page's scroll position afterwards.

Editor shortcuts

The editor has its own keyboard shortcuts for tools and actions. The full list is in the shortcut guide in InnoShot's Settings, which also shows your current capture shortcuts.
