Settings

All settings explained

A guide to every InnoShot setting, including theme, default capture mode, export defaults, filename pattern, grid, snap, autosave and reset.

Updated

InnoShot's settings hold your defaults, so each capture and export starts the way you like. To open them, click the InnoShot icon in Chrome's toolbar and choose settings in the popup. If you do not see the icon, open Chrome's Extensions menu (the puzzle-piece icon) and pin InnoShot.

Appearance

Theme

Choose light, dark or system. System follows your operating system's light or dark mode. The theme applies to InnoShot's own pages, such as the editor.

Reduced motion

Cuts down on animations and transitions in InnoShot's interface, for anyone who finds movement distracting or uncomfortable. It does not change the pages you capture. To stop a page's own animations during a capture, use the pause animations capture option instead.

Capture

Default capture mode

Choose which capture mode InnoShot treats as your default, for example full page if that is what you take most often.

Shortcut guide

Lists InnoShot's commands with the keyboard shortcuts Chrome has actually assigned to them. A blank entry means the command has no shortcut, either because it ships without one or because Chrome could not assign the suggested key. To change a shortcut, open chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Editor

Grid

Shows a grid over the canvas to help you line things up.

Snap

Makes layers snap into alignment as you move them, so things line up precisely. Turn it off when you want to position things freely.

Autosave

With autosave on, the editor saves your work as you go. With it off, use the save control in the editor's top bar.

Default background preset

Choose the background preset InnoShot uses as your default.

Export

Export format and quality

Sets the format and quality that exports start with. You can still change both for any single export.

Filename pattern

Sets how exported files are named. A consistent pattern keeps a folder of screenshots in order and makes files easy to recognize later. You can still type a different name for any single export.

Storage and data

Storage

Shows how much space InnoShot's captures and projects are using in your browser.

Retention

Off by default, which means InnoShot keeps everything until you delete it. If you turn it on, you choose a number of days, and InnoShot can remove captures that are older than that, were never edited and are not favorites. It shows you what will be removed before anything is deleted.

Reset

Reset puts InnoShot's settings back to their defaults. It is a useful first step if something behaves unexpectedly after you have changed several options.

Good to know

  • Settings never require an account, and InnoShot makes no network requests, so nothing you set here is sent to InnoShot.
  • On macOS, Chrome shows Alt as Option, so the shortcut guide may show Option where this documentation says Alt.
