Backgrounds and composition
Place screenshots on solid, gradient, mesh, image or transparent backgrounds in InnoShot, then set padding, aspect ratio, shadow and corners.
Updated
A background turns a bare screenshot into something ready for a slide, a post or a product page. InnoShot's background studio places your capture on a backdrop of your choice and gives you control over the space, shape and depth around it.
Choose a background
| Type | Good for |
|---|---|
| Solid | Clean presentations in a single brand color |
| Linear gradient | A simple sense of depth from one side to the other |
| Radial gradient | Light that spreads out from a point, drawing the eye inward |
| Mesh gradient | Soft blends of several colors |
| Soft blur | A gentle, out-of-focus backdrop |
| Pattern | Subtle texture behind a minimal screenshot |
| Noise | A fine grain texture |
| Uploaded image | Your own photo or artwork |
| Transparent | Placing the result on a page or slide that has its own background |
An uploaded image stays in your browser with the rest of the project. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Transparency survives only in formats that can store it, which are PNG and WebP. JPEG cannot store transparency.
Composition controls
Composition decides how the screenshot sits on the background:
- Aspect ratio: pick a preset or set a custom size.
- Padding: the space between the screenshot and the edge of the canvas.
- Scale: how large the screenshot is within the canvas.
- Alignment: where the screenshot sits, for example centered or nearer one edge.
- Rotation and tilt: angle the screenshot for a more dynamic look.
- Background blur and opacity: soften or fade the background so the screenshot stands out.
- Corner radius: round the screenshot's corners.
- Border and shadow: separate the screenshot from the background.
Aspect presets for common destinations
Aspect presets size the canvas for the place the image is going. Pick the shape that matches the destination first, then fine-tune padding and scale, so the layout is built for the final frame. If no preset fits, set a custom size.
Platforms change their recommended image sizes from time to time, so check the destination's current guidance when an exact size matters.
Colors
The color picker accepts HEX, RGB and HSL values. It also offers:
- Recent colors, so you can reuse what you just picked.
- Saved palettes for brand colors you use often.
- An eyedropper, to pick a color straight from your screen. Press Esc to cancel it.
Matching the background to a color taken from the screenshot itself is a quick way to make the result look deliberate.
Save your own presets
InnoShot includes editable background presets. When you have a combination you like, save it as a custom preset and reuse it across screenshots. Settings also lets you choose a default background preset.
Good to know
- Backgrounds and composition are non-destructive. You can change or remove them at any time without affecting the screenshot itself.
- Arrows and other annotations can extend onto the background, while effects such as spotlight, glass and blur stay inside the screenshot.
- Combine a background with a browser or device frame for a finished mockup.
