Getting started
Your first capture
Take your first screenshot with InnoShot, from the four capture actions in the toolbar popup to the editor tab where you save, copy or export it.
Updated
This walkthrough takes you from an open web page to a finished image. It assumes InnoShot is installed and, ideally, pinned to the Chrome toolbar.
The popup
Click the InnoShot icon in the toolbar to open the popup. Its four main actions are:
| Action | What it captures |
|---|---|
| Visible area | Exactly what you can see in the tab right now |
| Full page | The whole page from top to bottom, scrolled and stitched into one image |
| Selected area | A rectangle you drag out, which can be taller than your screen |
| Element | One part of the page, such as a card, table or chart, picked by pointing at it |
The popup also gives you delayed capture, capture of a scrollable region, a way to open the editor, your recent captures and settings. It shows the keyboard shortcuts that are actually assigned in your browser.
Take a capture
- Open the page you want to capture and let it finish loading.
- Click the InnoShot icon.
- Choose one of the four actions:
- The visible area is captured straight away.
- A full page capture scrolls through the page and shows its progress. Press Esc to cancel.
- For a selected area, drag a rectangle on the page, then press Enter to capture it or Esc to cancel.
- For an element, move the pointer until the part you want is outlined, then click or press Enter.
- The editor opens in a new tab with your capture.
You can also start a capture without the popup. Press a keyboard shortcut, such as Alt+Shift+V for the visible area, or right-click the page and choose one of InnoShot's capture options from the menu.
In the editor
The editor is a full browser tab. Your capture sits in the middle, the tools are in a rail on the left, the inspector on the right shows options for the selected tool or layer, and the main actions are in the top bar. Things to try first:
- Draw an arrow or add a text label.
- Crop to the part that matters.
- Add a background or a browser frame to make the image presentation-ready.
Every gesture can be undone, and editing is non-destructive: you can widen a crop again or change an adjustment later.
Save, copy or export
The top bar gives you three ways to finish:
- Save keeps your work as a project that you can reopen later from your history.
- Copy puts the image on the clipboard as a PNG, ready to paste into a chat, a document or an issue tracker.
- Export saves a file: PNG, JPEG or WebP, a PDF, or an SVG with vector annotations. You can set the quality, scale and file name first. The file is saved through Chrome's normal downloads.
Everything stays on your computer. Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.
Good to know
- Each capture has to start on the page itself, with a click on the InnoShot icon, a shortcut or the right-click menu. You cannot open the editor first and capture a page from there.
- Some pages cannot be captured, or only partly, because Chrome restricts extensions there, such as
chrome://pages and the Chrome Web Store. See Pages InnoShot cannot capture.
