Editing
Crop, rotate and resize
Crop a capture without losing pixels, use ratio presets, rotate by 90 degrees, flip, straighten a tilted image and resize or scale the canvas.
Updated
Crop, rotate and resize change the shape and size of the image you are working on. All of them are non-destructive in InnoShot: the original capture stays intact, so you can change your mind at any point.
Crop
- Choose the crop tool from the tool rail.
- Drag the edges or corners of the crop box until it frames the part you want.
- To get a specific shape, pick one of the ratio presets. The crop box keeps that ratio while you adjust it.
- Confirm the crop to return to editing.
Crop never discards pixels
InnoShot remembers the crop as a frame over the full capture rather than throwing the rest away. If you cut off too much, open the crop tool again and widen the crop: the hidden parts come back. This also works after you save the project and reopen it later.
A useful pattern for long pages is to take a full page capture and then crop it down to the region you need. You can always widen the crop again if you need more context.
Rotate and flip
- Rotate 90° turns the image a quarter turn at a time. Use it when content was captured sideways or you need a portrait version of a wide image.
- Flip mirrors the image horizontally or vertically.
Flipping mirrors any text in the screenshot as well, so it is mainly useful for decorative images rather than interface screenshots.
Straighten
Straighten rotates the image by a small angle to level it. Screenshots of web pages are normally straight already, so you will rarely need it.
If you want a tilted screenshot as a design effect, use the rotation and tilt options in the background studio instead. They tilt the screenshot on its background without changing the capture itself.
Resize and scale the canvas
You can change the size of the canvas or scale the image, for example to make an image fit a fixed width in your documentation.
If you only need a smaller file, consider leaving the project at full size and using the scale option when you export. That way you keep full detail in the project and can export other sizes later.
Good to know
- Cropping is not a privacy tool. Exported images contain only the cropped area, but project files (
.innoshot) keep the original pixels on purpose, including the parts you cropped away. If you share a project file, the hidden areas can be recovered. To hide sensitive information, use redaction. - Export just a region. When exporting, you can export a selected region of the image without changing your crop.
- Undo. Each crop, rotation or flip is a single undo step.
